Windows Phone Winning Market Share Slowly But Steadily

2013 has already seen a lot of new mobile devices that have come out through Mobile World Congress 2013 and Consumer Electronics Show 2013. The biggest releases that we have seen this year till date in 2013 would be that of the Sony Xperia Z, LG Optimus G Pro, Asus Padfone Infinity, HTC One and the most awaited mobile of 2013- Samsung Galaxy SIV. All of these run the Android Operating System. One might wonder why Android is the largest selling OS in the market and yes it is because it is very user friendly, best platform for developers and lots of features. But the reason to this is because every other smartphone is powered by Android. iOS by Apple does carry a good competition to Android in countires like USA, Great Britain, but in this fight for the top, it is safe to say Windows Phone 8 would said to be 3rd best and is up and rising. This article tells you why.

Talking about the first quarter of 2013- Android holds 49.3% smartphone sales and iOS holds 43.7% behind the iOS. Windows Phone is placed at 3rd with 5.6% sales but the largest gain out of the three compared to the same time last year. Andriod has actually slipped in sales comparing same time last year and on the contrary Windows Phone has continued to rise. It is also shown that 52% of people who were switching from feature phone to smartphone chose Windows Phone 8 over iOS and Andriod. People who bought iOS and Andriod were previous users of smartphones. Even though Windows Phone 8 shows small percentage of sales, it has gained the most market sales compared to last year’s situation. Nokia has jumped from 4% sales on WP to 9%, this growth is mere compared to that of Andriod and iOS. In India, Windows Phone 8 has outsold iOS devices!

Why Windows Phone 8?

People who are bored of how the home screen works for both the iOS and the Andriod, the same listing of apps, the lock screen and everything else- Windows Phone 8 comes as a breath of fresh air. The interactive live tiles are certainly unique and you will enjoy to play with them. Change their sizes, see them role and give you a different story as the time goes by, social networking on the go and lots more.

In today’s world, social networking is a big part of our lives. Windows Phone 8 is deeply integrated with your social networking websites and your lives. The best part is, if you want to message someone via Facebook or via SMS or send something via Twitter, you can do all of this from your contacts. Its simple and its easy.

Windows Phone 8 really reflects the person you are. You can see the live tiles of the person and you know what they care about and what they really love. Multitasking with Windows Phone is also an easy affair. The Internet Explorer 10 is so far one of the fastest mobile internet browsers.

The main reason why you buy WP8- YOU HATE LAG.

Does it have all the applications?

We buy a smartphone for the apps they have, and Microsoft has made available some wonderful apps. I wont say it has “all” of them, but yes all the necessary apps such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, they are all available. Microsoft had opened the Windows Phone App store with just an iota compared to that of number in iOS and Android and that was 75,000 apps and now they have grown to 150,000+ apps within no time. People had complaints that the Instagram app was not available, but no worries now. It has been released. Previously the YouTube App opened a webpage of YouTube but now a dedicated app is up and running.

Games like Angry Birds, Asphalt 5, Temple Run, they are all there.

The unique feature of every app on Windows Phone is its accessibility. Take the Facebook app, it takes a little more time to load compared to that in iOS and Andriod but once its up, you don’t need to load anything again, swipe across and you go to different sections of Facebook, your timeline, your news feed, messages, photos, everything! It seems like magic.

Windows Phone 8 has some exclusive apps, when you buy a Nokia Lumia you enter the beneficial and the most precise world of HERE Maps, HERE Drive and Nokia Music. I was really blown away by Nokia Music, as the music goes on, a camera roll slide show is running on the background, swipe across and you will be shown info about the artist, latest photos, their latest tweets etc. This is music exploration to another level.

Windows Phone 8 is here to stay and its just going to get better with time. Everyone should try it out. If you are bored of Android and iOS, then this is your thing. You’re OS. You have to experience it to believe it. Being a little over the top I would even like to say maybe someday it will slip to number 1 ahead of iOS and Android.

Apple unveils iPad Mini, new iMac, MacBook Pro and More

Apple Inc might never get a replacement to Steve Jobs, but then their new CEO Tim Cook is definitely leaving no stone unturned to provide the Apple lovers with what they always expect from the electronic device major. Recently, at their San Jose facility, Tim Cook announced a new iMac which is super slim, a Mac Mini, a Mac Book Pro at 13 inches and with a retina display and two all new iPads. Now, this surely shows that Apple knows the way around to its customer’s heart.

iPad Mini

Yes, no more whining and crying over the little too expensive iPad, as we have the iPad mini here. Though it is called the mini but then it definitely has everything that the iPad brings. The lovely screen, the iSight cameras, a huge bouquet of apps and a battery which can well last for 10 hours. And the best part is, this iPad mini can easily be held in one hand.

New iMac

The new iMac comes with a faster processor, an awe inspiring design and a display which comes with reduced reflection. This is one of the better and the most advanced PC that Apple has made and it comes with the quad core processors and the NVIDIA graphics. The iMac is some 40% thinner than the previous version and still packs a punch when it comes to the speed at which it works at. The glass comes with anti reflection coating and is fully laminated to the LCD. This desktop PC is geared to run faster when you are either playing your games on it or working on those apps full of graphics.

13 inch MacBook

This baby comes with some 4 million pixels and has a 13 inch large screen. Yes, on the 15 inch model, there are some 5 million pixels. Now, do we really need a reason to call it “the highest resolution notebook ever” and something that is way ahead of time. This notebook, works like a charmer for someone who loves to edit movies or someone who likes to edit the photographs. The great amount of pixels makes your job easier and also brings you close to perfection.

Wait and Watch What Apple has in for the New year

I believe that the one of the conclusions that one can draw from what Apple is trying to do by coming up with so many new and better versions of its products is that they are trying to rule the gadget world. They are trying to manufacture slimmer and thinner electronic devices. All the above devices that Apple has launched are thinner than their previous versions. Also, some people might have a nagging feeling that Apple might be looking to unveil a new iPad in early 2013, as it has already launched the iPad mini much before January, and this might not be the end for people who own the last version of iPad. But, then Apple has off late been launching new products with little time for its customers to spend over their latest possessions. Guess, it’s time to wait what Apple has in for the new year.

Gmail Launches Custom Themes: Use Your Own Picture as Background

In a blog post earlier today, Gmail Software Engineer, Greg Bullock announced that Gmail will now support custom themes. You can use your own pictures as background of Gmail.

Themes have been an important part of Gmail ever since we launched them back in 2008. Not only do they let you personalize your inbox with fun backgrounds, but they’re also practical, helping you easily differentiate between multiple Gmail inboxes (e.g. work and personal).

When we unveiled Gmail’s new look back in November, we introduced a number of new, beautiful HD themes. We also heard that many of you wanted to bring an even more personal touch by setting your own background. So over the next couple of days we are rolling out a new Custom themes section with two options, Light and Dark where you can do just that.

People have always loved to give more personal feeling to everything they use. Google has had option to use own image as background in Google Search page from long, and this new features is surely gonna be welcomes by many. As expected, Google is pushing Google+ more with this feature as you can directly import pictures from your Google+ account and use them as background picture. There will be two options available for customization, Light and Dark

Personalize Gmail Background

You can upload your own images directly, select from your Google+ photos or simply paste any image URL. Or, if you don’t have a particular image in mind, you can browse our searchable Featured Photos section to find one that speaks to you. With so many great options, it may be hard to choose, so to get a sense of the images available, try searching for ‘hdr scenery’ or ‘bokeh wallpaper’ in the Featured tab.

Google also notes that it will be rolling out the feature in next few days, so if you can’t see the option as yet, don’t worry.

Are there Any Chances for iPad Competitors

Does anyone stand a chance against the iPad?
The same that is happening in the world of smart phones is happening in the iPad world. Just as Apple has, the best iPhone and nobody can touch it, so it seems to be the case when looking at the competitors of the iPad. Samsung towards the end of 2010 released the Galaxy Tab and it did not fair to bad, but it still did not even come close to the iPad. HP publicly announced the release of their HP Touchpad, which will be launched in June 2011, but also made one big mistake. Their product will be launched after the debut of the competitions iPad 2, so if they stood any chance in getting a head start it surely is lost.
There are many other versions available later this year and we do have some information on some of them like the JooJoo from Fusion garage, which is currently the closest to shipping. It is also the most feature-barren of the iPad competitors and cost $500. It is an extremely simple tablet with a 12-inch screen and does not even have a SIM card slot for 3G.
Archos Tablet only has a 600 MHz processor and may be many peoples answer who does not want to pay $500 and upward. They will sell their tablet for only $179 and may have thought it will attract more interest when it is released in April, but we will have to wait and see.
Dell is also cooking up tablets of their own and the one they showed off is the Streak, but the size of it removes it from the iPads competition and relates more to the mobile Internet devices. Asus started the netbook craze and their 9-inch tablet, the Asus Eee is speculated as being able to run a Google mobile operating system.
Compal with their 7-inch Android 2.0 which runs with the Tegra 2 processor will be able to support video playback of 1080p and still maintain great battery life. According to Nvidia, they have several partners in the pipeline to design tablets with the Tegra 2 chip, so it can be expected to see more of this sort of tablet soon. Notion Ink also use the Tegra 2 chip and runs Android in their 10-inch tablet called Adam and use Pixel Qi screen technology that is great to use in direct sunlight.

Is it enough?
However, will all these features from some great companies be enough to remove the iPad from its throne? There is over 80 competitors and each try their best to come up with a new concept, whether it is size, hardware, or software to outshine the iPad. Not even lower prices and great applications can shift iPad from the throne, or so it seems currently and it is speculated that the iPad will definitely stay ahead of the pack through 2012 as well.

Facebook Replaces Black Photo Viewer, Photos Are Bigger Too

Facebook has been busy this week, making a lot of changes. The latest in line is upgrade in photos.

The first change is related to resolution of photos, which are being shared. You can now share photos that are up to 960 pixels wide (up from 720 pixels) and photos will load twice as fast. Photos that you have already uploaded to Facebook will be displayed at the higher resolution too.

The next change is related to photo viewer, most of you might like it. Facebook has replaced its highly criticized black lightbox with a more pleasing white Lightbox. By moving to from a black to a white background, opening photos from the mostly white news feed should be less jarring. This could reduce fatigue from rapidly dropping in and out of the photo viewer and keep users browsing the site for longer.
